Pruning, sowing, planting and growing. Hands-on, hand-held learning from an experienced expert in your own garden. Have you inherited a mature garden or wayward wisteria and are not sure what to do with it, or maybe moved to a brand new garden and need advice, or just been bitten by the gardening bug and itching to get hands on but not sure how to do it? You can read as many books and watch as much YouTube as you want but there is nothing like having your own expert to hand to show you how, and to hold your hand as you head off into unknown garden territory. The purpose of this service is to help build your gardening confidence and get greater pleasure from your garden. By us working together on whatever tasks you choose you will gain not only the practical skills to be able to work on your own with self assurance but I will also explain the theory behind what we are doing so not only will you know what to do but more importantly you will know why you are doing it. The service covers all aspects of gardening including veg growing, seasonal shrub pruning, pruning to rejuvenate, pruning and tying in climbers, propagating by cuttings, division and seed, how to tweak and tidy for best effect, plant appreciation and selection, understanding and improving your soil, weed control, assessing your garden, simple design principles, pests and diseases and planting trees, shrubs and perennials. I would particularly like to get young people interested in growing and gardening so family groups are particularly welcome. Gardening is a useful way of learning and involves many educational disciplines including maths, geography, geometry, botany, chemistry, ecology and zoology and gives a great understanding of nature, evolution and an artistic appreciation of colour and form. And on top of that there is the simple pleasure of being and working outdoors. The service is offered in half or full day sessions. Travel costs to your garden will be applied by agreement where they become significant. A four hour half day cost £110 and a full eight hour day £220. Groups to a maximum of five. Larger groups can be accommodated by arrangement. It is possible for a day or half day to be made up of two or three gardens if they are close together. Please note these sessions are carried out in your garden with you and I working together. I am hoping to arrange workshops on specific topics to be carried out in my garden in the future and should you like tuition in any particular aspect of gardening please let me know. |
